Volunteer for the monastery in Pokhara

Mr Marco Petrino, an Italian citizen has signed up with Volunteer Society Nepal intending to work in one of the monasteries for 2 weeks in Pokhara, Nepal. He arrived in Nepal a couple of days back and is now undergoing a short orientation course after which he will be placed in a monastery located in the lap of Mt. Machhapuchchre (renowned as Fishtail Mountain).

Enjoying the scenic beauty and the charming mountains and natural beauty of Pokhara, the most famous tourist destination in Nepal, he will be working in a monastery. He has a plan to teach and help young monks pursue their theological study there in the monastery. During the weekend he can easily do a small one day trek as well if he is interested as there are so many attractive and fascinating areas where you do the trek around Pokhara.

What does a monastery volunteer do?

Volunteers in monastery placements can teach English, Math, creative and fun activities or sports to the monks for around 3-4 hours per day. Even if you are less experienced, we have teaching materials that help you when needed. In turn, the monks share their knowledge and culture with the volunteers. If you ask the monks, you can get the chance to learn meditation techniques and receive in-depth knowledge of the Buddhist culture. This is one of our most popular volunteering posts, due to the unique way it allows you to truly be involved in the life of a Buddhist monastery.
