Environmental Conservation Volunteering Program

On June 5th, in honor of Environment Day, a dedicated group of students from the Netherlands joined forces with students from the CBIA School to make a significant impact on the environment through Volunteer Society Nepal’s environmental conservation volunteering program. Together, they organized a “Trash Tag Challenge” to clean up the surrounding areas of Pepsicola, Kathmandu.

The Trash Tag Challenge was not just about cleaning up the area but also about creating lasting awareness among the participants and the local community. The challenge highlighted the critical issue of waste management and its impact on the environment. Participants learned how the waste on the streets can end up in sewage systems, rivers, and ultimately, the air we breathe. This pollution cycle poses severe risks to living beings, harming health and the environment.

The Longevity of Plastic Waste

A major focus of the campaign was to educate everyone on the long-lasting effects of plastic waste. Participants were informed that plastics do not decay easily; it takes more than 400 years for plastic to decompose. This alarming fact served as a reminder to minimize the use of plastics and to avoid discarding them carelessly.

Promoting Clean Surroundings

In addition to the cleanup, the event aimed to instill a sense of responsibility in keeping our surroundings clean. Educating people about the importance of maintaining a clean environment is crucial in fostering sustainable habits and ensuring a healthier future for all.

The Thrill of Competition

The highlight of the day was the friendly competition among the groups. The group that collected the most amount of trash was declared the winner, adding a fun and motivating element to the challenge. This friendly competition encouraged everyone to put in their best effort, resulting in a significant amount of waste being collected and properly disposed of.

This Environment Day initiative by Volunteer Society Nepal not only helped clean the local area but also educated and inspired the community to take proactive steps towards environmental conservation. The collaboration between Dutch students and CBIA students demonstrated the power of collective action in addressing environmental issues.
