Volunteer’s help at Disability Centre

On Wednesday 1st of November, the children from the Centre for Children with Intellectual Disabilities went on a day trip to Pashupatinath Temple. It is one of the holiest Hindu temples in the world and is a UN World Heritage site. Fourteen children, four members of staff and one volunteer accompanied the children. Everyone enjoyed their time on the day trip, which ended with MoMos for lunch.

We Need More Staff and Volunteers

We wish we could take the children at the disability centre on trips more often. However, we are unfortunately understaffed. The children require a lot of personal attention and care. Four staff members are not enough for the number of children that attend the centre. We need your help. Due to this reason, we can only take the children on day trips when we have volunteers. We also request the parents of the children to join us on the trips, however, the parents do not always join the trip as they are working. Ms Cristina Travan, a volunteer from Australia accompanied us on this trip. She did an amazing job and we are extremely thankful for her time that allowed the children to enjoy a day out of the classroom.

Happy and Healthy Children

Sometimes, the best way to get the most out of the monotonous schedules for the children is to take them out on a day trip. This can be a short walk, a trip to a monument, a trip to the park etc. At VSN, we believe these types of activities help the children become happier and healthier. As we are understaffed, these trips do not happen often. We hope to change this so the children can enjoy more fun days out, instead of being in the classroom. It also shows the children a different environment. It teaches them life skills and become more aware of the challenges present in day to day life. We believe that through these types of activities, the children can release stress, anxiety, develop social skills and increase their confidence.

You Can Help

If you would like to assist us with taking the children on trips, please join us in Nepal and help to give these children a better life.

Children with disabilities are often socially isolated in Nepal. We do not agree with this. All children deserve to learn, grow and be a part of a society that does not exclude them. We want to give these children the love and childhood they deserve. We do this by asking for a volunteers time and compassion.
