Volunteer Society Nepal : The best experience for volunteers, the best value for Nepal.

Bio-medical Team Repairs Medical Equipment all over Nepal

Nepal is a developing country that has recently been making a lot of progress in the field of infrastructures. Until now, the Nepali government has not been able to bring technical advancement to hospitals all over the country. Sometimes it has been supporting hospitals to acquire medical equipment, but there is not enough knowledge to maintain these. For this reason, there has been a great demand of medical bio- engineers to help with the maintenance of the hospital equipment and accessories.

The Bio-Medical Engineer Team Has Arrived

A group of 18 bio-medical engineers from Denmark and Norway under the Engineering World Health “DTU-EWH Summer Institute Nepal” program are here in Nepal. They will soon volunteer in some of the remote areas of Nepal. They will lend a helping hands in the maintenance of the much needed equipment in the hospitals. The first group of 17 bio- medical students from USA were in Nepal during January 2016 under the Engineering World Health’s “Winter Institute Nepal” program. This visit turned out to be very productive and successful. The team had an amazing experience working and helping in the hospitals. This is officially the second visit of the Bio-medical teams and we are very happy to receive them.

Cultural Activities for the Bio-Medical Team

Nepali language and culture training is an obligatory aspect for all volunteers. Our qualified Nepali language trainers taught them some Nepali language. This will help them a lot while working at the hospital in the remote areas of Nepal. Volunteer Society Nepal conducted 8 days Nepali language, cultural training and tours for the bio- medical engineers. To make them able to experience the Nepali culture and life style their accommodation has been arranged with Nepali host families. The love and care they receive from the host families will surely make them fall in love with the Nepali people. After the completion of their volunteering, they will also get the opportunity to see the country and travel to places such as Pokhara and Chitwan.

Volunteering by the Bio-Medical Team

The bio-medical teams are very excited and anxious to start their journey to the hospitals in the rural areas of Nepal. They will soon depart to the district hospitals in   Bandipur, Bharatpur, Dhading, Myagdi, Kapilvastu, Hetauda, Damauli, Gorkha, Parbat and Baglung. VSN has arranged a request letter from the Ministry of Health that will make their work easier. The entire team is led by Marten Madsen. He will be coordinating and assisting the teams.  They are divided into different groups of 2-3 people each. Each group will have a Nepali Bio-medical mentor who will assist them in finding the host family and the hospital. Each team has special maintenance kits that are arranged by VSN. The teams will be volunteering for 2 weeks. They will be helping in the maintenance of the equipment and share their skills with the local staff.

The whole EWH team is eager to help as much as they can and they are very excited at the same time. We wish them all the best for their time here. May their volunteering be really productive and fruitful. We will keep you updated on their progress!
