Volunteer Society Nepal is looking for cooks, bakers and hotel managers to share their skills in Nepal. The hotel sector and hotel schools rely on skills and knowledge that is often brought in from abroad. Unfortunately there is a lack of knowledge about the latest developments in cooking, baking and hotel management. Tourism is growing in Nepal, but there are not enough skilled people to fulfill the requirements that tourist have. The lack of skilled people makes it hard for many hotels, bakeries and restaurants to move forward and retain a high level of quality. Therefore hotel schools are in desperate need for volunteers with skills in the field of cooking, baking and hotel management.
We are looking for people who have graduated in hotel management or culinary school. You can also have years of experience in baking, as a chef or managing a hotel or restaurant. Besides this you have to be willing to share your knowledge in a self-motivated and pro-active way. And last but not least: you will need to be culturally sensitive with strong interpersonal and communication skills and the confidence to create positive relationships in very diverse working environments.
As a volunteer you will be working together with the bakers or cooks in the hotel school setting up teaching classes for the students on subjects that they lack knowledge or experience in. You can also teach the teachers (this is called teacher trainer). You can set up your own classes in separate hours that you get from the school, or you can help in the general classes that they already have. The school has all the materials to give classes and prepare food, such as ovens, food production tables and even a demonstration room. So you just need to bring your skills and knowledge in your line of work.
