Volunteer Society Nepal : The best experience for volunteers, the best value for Nepal.

Internship Vacancy: Talent School

Internship vacancy for future teachers and pedagogy students! Many children in Nepal are deprived of attention, homework help, and good nutrition. Their families are poor and do not have the time nor money to support them. When their school day ends, these children return to their homes and spend the rest of the day taking care of their fellow siblings or roaming the streets. These children end up leaving school early. They find work as child laborers in restaurants, factories and hotels, and as trash collectors. Or get involved in criminal activities.

Talent School Program

To help these children to further develop themselves and gain a positive outlook, Volunteer Society Nepal has started the Talent School. The Talent school offers a group of children the opportunity to get guidance. Children get guidance with their homework, explore their own ideas, create art, connect through music, dance and play games.

We have a vacancy for students that can think along with the program and that can help us with setting up a new social and financial education program called Aflatoun. Beside setting up this new lesson program, you will also guide these children with their homework and after school activities. The children are mostly between the ages of six and twelve and have an understanding of English.

You will be working together with a dedicated team of Nepali women and interns who you can share your skills and knowledge with. Volunteer Society will give you all the help and guidance you need to fulfill your internship in a successful and satisfying manner.

How do Interns help?

Besides helping with setting up the social and financial education program called Aflatoun, the internship is also to act as a homework mentor and activity organizer. As activity organizer you will encourage the children in their studies and good behavior and help them develop socially and academically. Interns can teach the children general life skills, including health and sanitation, leadership or debating skills, as well as arts, crafts, dance and music. For the Friday Fun activity day you can also organize tours, games, drawing classes, singing, dancing, painting and other creative activities that the children enjoy.

Our next generation in Nepal needs to gain inspiration from positive role models in their environment so that they can dream and create goals in life.

Do I need any specific qualifications or skills for this internship?

We are looking for interns who are studying pedagogy or do a bachelor to become a teacher or anything that resembles this level of education. Besides that, you need to be pro-active, enthusiastic and approachable.

Combine this internship program with…

…teaching English or ICT at the women center! Between 11:30 and 14:00 the women are having classes in the same building as the After School  Program. These women have never had the chance to finish their own education at school, as they got married and started having children. Now these women learn how to read and write, learn some English and ICT skills. Before the children come you can work in the women center. Or you can focus only on the After School Program. Just discuss your preference with us!
