Volunteer Society Nepal : The best experience for volunteers, the best value for Nepal.
Nepal, the land of snow-capped peaks and ancient mysteries, beckons not just with its breathtaking landscapes, but also with the warmth of its people and the promise of meaningful connections. So, when Joscelyn, accompanied by her students Lisa and Liv from Gymnasium Camphusianum School in the Netherlands, embarked on a 10-day “travel with a purpose” journey, they knew they were in for an experience that transcended the ordinary. Joined by Desiree, a member of the Tika Foundation, and her daughter Isis, their trip wasn’t just about ticking off tourist destinations, but about immersing themselves in the cultural tapestry, forging lasting connections, and leaving a positive impact on the communities they encountered.
Their adventure began with a captivating journey through time at Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stepping amidst intricately carved temples and traditional courtyards, they were transported to a bygone era, experiencing the essence of Nepal’s rich history and vibrant culture. The sacred grounds of Pasupatinath Temple and Swayambhunath Stupa unveiled themselves on the second day, offering a glimpse into the profound spirituality that permeates Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Witnessing the age-old rituals and the serene atmosphere painted a vivid picture of Nepal’s diverse religious landscape.
Immersed in the sacred atmosphere, they witnessed ancient rituals, marveled at the intricate temple architecture, and learned about the significance of Lord Shiva in Hindu culture.
But that’s not all! They also encountered the fascinating Sadhus, holy men who have renounced worldly possessions to pursue spiritual enlightenment. ?
Here’s how their day unfolded:
Witnessing the cremation rituals on the banks of the Bagmati River, gaining a deeper understanding of life and death in Hindu tradition.
Exploring the maze-like alleys of the temple complex, discovering hidden shrines and breathtaking sculptures.
Meeting Sadhus adorned with ashes and vibrant clothing, capturing their unique presence through photos (always with respect and permission, of course!)
Reflecting on the profound spiritual energy that permeates the entire Pashupatinath experience.
Their journey through this historic and sacred site was both culturally enriching and personally transformational.
But the true highlight of their trip lay beyond the tourist trail. On the third day, they were welcomed with open arms at the CBIA School, a beacon of hope for underprivileged children. Here, the purpose of their journey truly resonated. Joscelyn, Lisa, and Liv, brimming with enthusiasm, geared up to conduct engaging English workshops and interact with the students. Adding another layer of purpose, they planned to culminate their trip by painting the school, their artistic talents contributing to a brighter future for the children. The shared joy and anticipation for this impactful project were palpable, a testament to the power of collaborative action.
Currently, their journey takes them deep into the heart of Chitwan National Park, where the untamed beauty of Nepal’s wilderness unfolds before them. From majestic rhinos and elusive tigers to vibrant birdlife and exotic flora, they are experiencing the thrill of jungle safaris, their senses awakened by the symphony of nature. Yet, their exploration doesn’t stop there. Soon, they will venture to our project in Banepa, offering their support and witnessing the transformative impact of our work. A breathtaking hike in Dhulikhel awaits them, promising panoramic vistas and a chance to reconnect with the grandeur of the Himalayas.
Joscelyn, Lisa, Liv, Desiree, and Isis represent the true spirit of responsible travel. Their journey is a tapestry woven with cultural exchange, education, and collaboration, each thread contributing to a positive impact on the communities they encounter. As they delve deeper into Nepal’s heart, they are not just collecting memories, but forging connections, sharing knowledge, and leaving a legacy that will resonate long after their departure. We, at vsnnepal.org, are honored to be a part of their remarkable journey, and we invite you to stay tuned as their story unfolds, filled with inspiration and the transformative power of travel with purpose.
