Holi is an ancient Hindu spring festival, originating from the Indian subcontinent. It is celebrated predominantly in India and Nepal, but has also spread to other areas of Asia and parts of the Western world through the diaspora from the Indian subcontinent. Holi is popularly known as the Indian “festival of spring”, the “festival of colours”, or the “festival of love”. The festival signifies the arrival of spring, the end of winter, the blossoming of love, and for many a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair broken relationships.
During the Holi festival in Kathmandu, Volunteer Society Nepal has made a special program for the volunteers. They would first go around the local area in Kathmandu together. They visit the homestay families and enjoy playing with kids on the street. Holi is really best spent with families and friends! Like this they enjoyed Holi on streets and the rooftops of the host families.
Around 12 o clock the volunteers got into a taxi and went to another area of Kathmandu, where there was a small Holi Festival with a great band playing! There was singing, dancing and listening to Bob Marley and local Nepali tunes for the whole afternoon. Of course, there was water flights and color throwing all throughout the festival! After that some volunteers were happy, tired and satisfied. And some continued the party till late at night!
