Volunteer Society Nepal : The best experience for volunteers, the best value for Nepal.

Volunteer Vacancy in After School Care

Vacancy for volunteers: Many children in Nepal are deprived of attention, homework help, and good nutrition. Their families are poor and do not have the time nor money to support them. When their school day ends, these children return to their homes and spend the rest of the day taking care of their fellow siblings or roaming the streets. These children end up leaving school early. They find work as child laborers in restaurants, factories and hotels, and as trash collectors. Many of the children go to government schools. In government schools the standard of education is lower as the parents cannot pay the expensive fees for private schools.

After School Program

To help these children to further develop themselves, Volunteer Society Nepal is starting an After School Program (ASP). This program offers children the opportunity to get guidance. Children get guidance with their homework, explore their own ideas, create art, connect through music, dance and play games.

We have a vacancy for volunteers that can think along with the program and set up a plan and a schedule, together with our Nepali team of young women. Once started, you will guide these children with their homework and after school activities. The children are mostly between the ages of four and fifteen and have a basic understanding of English.

You will be working together with a dedicated team of Nepali women and interns who you can share your skills and knowledge with. Volunteer Society will give you all the help and guidance you need to fulfill your volunteering in a successful and satisfying manner.

How do volunteers help?

Beside helping with the start-up, the vacancy description of the volunteer is to act as a homework guide and activity organizer. As an activity organiser you will encourage the children in their studies and good behavior and help them develop socially and academically. Volunteers will teach the children general life skills, including health and sanitation, as well as arts, crafts, dance and music. As a volunteer in Nepal, you may also organize tours, games, drawing classes, singing, dancing, painting and other creative activities that the children enjoy.

Our next generation in Nepal needs to gain inspiration from positive role models in their environment so that they can dream and create goals in life. More values and ethics shape their future. Volunteers, together with their Nepali counterparts will be responsible for guiding the children with ethics and moral values in everyday life.

Do I need any specific qualifications or skills for this placement?

Volunteers do not need any qualifications to help in an a child care project in Nepal, but it will be a more enjoyable experience if you are enthusiastic and approachable.

Combine this program with…

…teaching English or ICT at the women center! Between 11:30 and 14:00 the women are having classes in the same building as the After School  Program. These women have never had the chance to finish their own education at school, as they got married and started having children. Now these women learn how to read and write, learn some English and ICT skills. Before the children come you can work in the women center. Or you can focus only on the After School Program. Just discuss your preference with us!
