Volunteer Society Nepal : The best experience for volunteers, the best value for Nepal.
Volunteer Society Nepal is looking Physics and Science teachers to share their skills in Nepal. Volunteer Society Nepal has received a donation of a Telescope from the ‘Stars Shine for Everyone’ foundation. They have a goal to make learning about astronomy accessible for all children, focusing on socially disadvantages or disabled children.
Unfortunately, there is a lack of knowledge regarding physics and astronomy in Nepal. There are not enough skilled teachers to sufficiently teach the children on how to use a telescope and to see the stars. We have the telescope and lessons materials available and very eager children who want to learn. Now all we need are teachers who are happy to train the teachers of our school on how to use the telescope and teach the children.
As a volunteer you will be working together with the Science teacher of the school setting up teaching classes for the students on the subject of Astronomy and maybe other science subjects as well. Or you teach the teachers yourself (this is called teacher trainer). You can set up your own classes in separate hours that you can get from the school, or you can help in the general classes that they already have. The school has received the telescope and teaching materials already. You just need to bring your skills and knowledge as a Physics/Science teacher. And last but not least: you will need to be culturally sensitive with strong interpersonal and communication skills and the confidence to create positive relationships in very diverse working environments.
Volunteer Society Nepal offers you a well-organized program for a small fee that includes the following:
