Volunteer Society Nepal : The best experience for volunteers, the best value for Nepal.

A Volunteer’s Experience: Music Therapist Anita

My name is Anita Ayling and I volunteered as a music therapist with Volunteer Society Nepal. I have meant to send a review ever since. Although it is delayed, I figured that I would still go ahead and send something. I am happy to have VSN read and share it, to keep up the fabulous work!

About Anita’s volunteering work as a Music Therapist

During my time in Nepal I volunteered as a music therapist with Volunteer Society Nepal. They assisted me and my colleagues in providing music therapy to children and at the women’s centre. VSN has never encountered music therapists before! VSN’s openness to new endeavours and ideas is one of the things that makes the organization so special. Everyone has their unique skills and VSN can assist you in finding a volunteer experience that is the right fit for you.

My experience with VSN was extremely positive and I found the organization greatly enhanced my overall time spent in Nepal. They provide fantastic accommodation (with the most delicious food that I still dream about). In addition, they have ample volunteer opportunities and experiences. Last but not least, the price of accommodation and support is very fair considering everything that is provided. The majority of your money goes to supporting their projects! This is rare to find with volunteering agencies!

Anita her Trekking Experience

VSN does a fantastic job at helping you adapt to a new culture. They answer any questions you may have. Besides my work as a music therapist, they encouraged me to take part in many cultural festivities and sight seeing. VSN also provides high quality trekking experiences. I trekked to Mount Everest Base Camp while in Nepal. I was very impressed with the quality of the guide and overall trek that VSN provided.

There is so much to fall in love with in Nepal! The mountains, the history and culture, the traditions, the hustle and bustle, the vibrant colours… But the first thing that comes to mind about why I love Nepal is the people. They are kind, hardworking, humble and authentic. The people that are a part of VSN are living proof. It is an honest, local organization full of dedicated individuals. They care about bringing positive change to the people of Nepal! VSN continues to provide a plethora of meaningful projects to people who deserve the love and support.

Since leaving Nepal I have travelled to each of the 7 continents and spent ample time in many countries. I have also volunteered as a music therapist in several other countries with various agencies. When people ask me where my favourite place on earth is my answer remains consistent: “Nepal”. The country itself is phenomenal but my experience with VSN was what made it truly unforgettable. Nepal is the #1 country that I plan on returning to! I hope to connect with VSN again when I am able to do so.

If you are contemplating going to Nepal (maybe as a music therapist?), I believe you will find that the rumours about just how amazing it is are completely true. If you have any questions, you can contact me through VSN!
