Swimming Programme for the Children at the Disability Centre (CCID)

It is July and it is summer in Nepal! Therefore, VSN and CCID took the children from the disability centre to the local swimming pool! For children of any ability, the swimming pool can be a fun and relaxing environment to exercise their bodies. With each kick or stroke, water resistance helps to build muscle tone and strength which is more important for children with disabilities.

A Wonderful Day Out of the Disability Centre

During the month of June, we had many workshops for staffs and parents at our Centre for Children with Intellectual Disabilities (CCID) so we were unable to take our children for outdoor activities. On Monday 3rd of July, we took the children from the disability centre to the swimming pool. Eleven children participated. The children were accompanied by our four staffs, one Nepali volunteer and parents of Kashyap and Anuj.

Unfortunately, we tried to take the children by local public bus, but failed. This is because the bus driver denied our service because the children need special care. This is the social stigma we want to change. Therefore, we had to take taxis. On the other hand, the children had a wonderful time playing in the water and trying to swim. They enjoyed the cold water splashes during that hot summer day. Amazingly Umesh recalled his memory of having “momos” during swimming last year. It’s these small moments that make us appreciate how lucky we are to have our volunteers and donors who enable us to help these children.

There is nothing more rewarding than the look on a child’s face when he or she is thinking, “I did it!”
