Dashain Festival is Celebrated by our Volunteers!

Nepal is a land full of cultural diversity. People follow different religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam etc. In Nepal, people of different religions live together in harmony. The vast majority of Nepali people follow Hinduism. Dashain is the most important festival in Nepal for Hindus which lasts for 15 days.

The Story Behind Dashain

Dashain, also known as Bijaya Dashami, is the grandest, longest and most auspicious festival in Nepal. The country celebrates Dashain in Ashwin month (September to October in Solar Calendar). The celebration marks the battle between the goddess Durga and the demon Mahishasura. Durga won the battle. It also celebrates the fertile land and a year of good harvest. Meanwhile, Dasain has also emphasized the importance of family reunion, which is helpful to ease social contradictions. During the festival period, government agencies, educational institutions and other public sectors will be closed.

Volunteers Celebrate!

The volunteers enjoyed celebrating the festival. They had a great time. They enjoyed wearing national dresses, national traditions and celebrating with local people. Below are some pictures from the celebrations.
