Healthcare Volunteering in Nepal – Noor and Lien’s medical work

We are delighted to extend a warm welcome to two passionate and charming medical doctors from the Netherlands who have joined our medical care and public health internship program in Nepal.

She is Noortje, but for most foreigner she is Noor because her full name is pretty complicated for foreigners. Last year Noor finished her Bachelor’s in Medicine and was totally done with studying for a while so she decided to take a gap year. Noor felt so lucky to meet Eline who got exactly the same feeling. Noor main plan was to travel the world but she also love to see different healthcare systems around the world. She had already worked at a hospital in Tanzania a few years ago and it was so interesting how it is totally different from each other. The choice of Nepal was pretty easy for her. She fell in love with Nepal and the nature around here 4 years ago and was determined to go back one day again.

She is Eline, but most people call her Lien. A while ago she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Medicine but she wasn’t completely ready to start the three-year Master’s degree, so Lien decided to take a gap year. During her gap year she especially wanted to travel and gain medical experience. Lien met Noortje in her first year of medicine and had the same thought and ideas.

During their four months trip, Noor and Lien wanted to gain some experience in the healthcare system and contribute to the health and well-being of the community in which they serve in a different part of the world. Noor and Lien decided to go to Nepal because they are very interested in both the culture and the nature that the country has to offer. After spending time in Nepal, they are planning to travel even further through Southeast Asia. Lien is really looking forward to seeing the different countries and cultures and making beautiful memories together with Noortje!
