A Warm Welcome in Kathmandu

The volunteers were welcomed with traditional garlands and a heartwarming cultural orientation session upon arrival in Kathmandu. They were introduced to the local community, host families, and our amazing team of educators and coordinators at VSN. This initiation process ensures that every volunteer understands the cultural context, expectations, and values of working in Nepalese society.

Their placement: a vibrant local partner school in Kathmandu where hundreds of students receive quality education, often despite economic hardship. The school is more than a place of learning—it’s a beacon of hope for many children and families.

Making a Real Difference in Education

The Réunion Island volunteers are involved in a variety of educational and extracurricular activities designed to support both students and teachers. Their impact is already being felt in multiple areas:

Physical Education

Promoting fitness and fun through physical activity is one of their contributions. With games, structured exercises, and mini-tournaments, students are not only staying active but also learning teamwork and discipline.

The Heart of Volunteering: Cultural Immersion

Our summer volunteers are not just teachers—they are learners too. Staying with host families in Kathmandu, they are immersed in local life. From eating dal bhat (the traditional rice and lentil dish) to celebrating local festivals, exploring temples, and learning Nepali phrases, they are absorbing the vibrant culture of Nepal.

They’ve also participated in community events, helped organize school cleaning drives, and visited heritage sites as part of their cultural learning. This mutual exchange of ideas and experiences lies at the core of VSN’s mission.

The Adventure of a Lifetime: Annapurna Base Camp Trek

In addition to volunteering, these enthusiastic explorers are embarking on a 9-day trek to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). One of Nepal’s most iconic trekking routes, the ABC trek is a breathtaking journey through rhododendron forests, mountain villages, and majestic Himalayan peaks.

The trek offers a perfect balance of physical challenge and natural beauty. It allows our volunteers to connect more deeply with the land and appreciate the ecological diversity of Nepal. This journey is not only a personal accomplishment but also a meaningful way to unwind, reflect, and bond with fellow volunteers.
