Volunteer Society Nepal : The best experience for volunteers, the best value for Nepal.

Volunteer Vacancy: Hospitality Manager

Volunteer Society Nepal is looking for persons who have experience working in cafes and restaurants to share their skills in Nepal. Volunteer Society Nepal has received a request from a startup café in Kathmandu that has a beautiful garden with great hangout places. Their (small) menu is a mixture of Nepali and Western dishes.

Lack of Knowledge

The young local owner does not have that much knowledge on how to run a café or restaurant and would love to learn more in terms of preparing simple sandwich dishes, different types of coffee and how to run the place smooth and efficient. They also would like to promote the place more and set up social events like drinks on Friday afternoons etc. It is really the perfect place for these type of events and has lots of potential.

What will I be doing?

As a volunteer you will be working together with the local staff, redesigning the small lunch menu, making daily/weekly/monthly checklists. You will be helping with the preparation of the food and drinks, showing how to be a good host for the guests and how to deal with complaints etc. You will also be setting up the Facebook page, make nice pictures and promote small events. You can also think about how to make the restaurant sustainable, ban plastic straws etc.

You just need to bring your skills and knowledge of working in a restaurant/café and share it with the local staff. Even as a waiter or barista you would have plenty of skills to share! And last but not least: you will need to be culturally sensitive with strong interpersonal and communication skills and the confidence to create positive relationships in very diverse working environments.

What will be included?

Volunteer Society Nepal offers you a well-organized program for a small fee that includes the following:

  • Airport pick up and drop off
  • Food and accommodation from the moment of landing at the airport to the final day of your placement
  • In depth cultural and language training
  • Guided sightseeing in Kathmandu
  • Arranged transfers to and from your placement
  • Fully trained host families
  • 24hr availability of VSN Nepal staff for emergencies
  • Assistance with visas and pre-departure support
  • Fundraising support
  • Support in booking any further travel in Nepal
