Volunteer Vacancy: Climate Ambassador

Volunteer Society Nepal is looking for people who want to share their knowledge about climate change with our projects in Nepal. Volunteer Society Nepal has started a project together with volunteer Laura, to educate and work together with youth clubs and schools in one area in Kathmandu, Nepal. The goal is to create awareness among youth and teach them about of the influence of climate change, littering, plastics, etc. And of course to make them ACT upon this!

Lack of Knowledge

There has been little education among the Nepali people about the influences of climate change, waste, littering and the effects of burning of plastic. Therefore, in many neighborhoods, you see people littering and garbage on the streets. However, nowadays, you see among the youth that there is a will to change things, but they don’t know where to start.

What will I be doing?

As a volunteer you will:

• Work with the local community and schools to plan, coordinate and manage the Litter-Free Neighborhood Program.
• Assist the schools and community with the waste collection drives and trashtag challenges
• Assist in developing and carrying out various waste management training and programs for the community
• Build networks and strengthen relations with community members
• Work with the local schools, develop and give workshops on climate change
• Make pictures and promote small events on Facebook and Instagram.

What skills do I need?

You just need to bring your skills and knowledge of the environment that you learned since you were a kid. You need to be a pro-active person with lots of goof ideas to get a community and/or group of youth interested in a common goal. Of course Volunteer Society Nepal will help you with this.

And last but not least: you will need to be culturally sensitive with strong interpersonal and communication skills and the confidence to create positive relationships in very diverse working environments.
