Volunteer Society Nepal : The best experience for volunteers, the best value for Nepal.
Volunteer Society Nepal offers a special One Week Language and Culture Home stay Package. With this package you will bepicked up from the airport and you will be brought to your home stay. Here you will be staying with one or two other guests with a Nepali family. With your new family you will hang out and eat together in the mornings and evenings.
During your days you will receive language training in the morning and together with a guide you will be going to all the special heritage sites of Kathmandu in the afternoon. Within one week you will receive cultural immersion and
exposure to the local language and local ways of life. The program is ideal for people who want to get a head start for their time in Nepal and also explore the country in a more meaningful way.
Let’s introduce our enthusiastic volunteer Belen Zanzuki from Argentina. She is a student, doing her masters in Global Affairs taking the major subject as Sustainable Development in the United States. She is here in
Nepal for a month with the intent of doing a summer internship, as part of her Master program. Belen will be conducting her studies on promoting self recovery after natural disasters in Nepal and India. She is going to work in Kathmandu,
Gorkha and Okhaldhunga in Nepal.
She has been taking Nepali language classes for a week with our language trainer, Shakti. She is taking language class for 4 hours per day. Belen says; ‘‘I thought it was a good idea to learn some Nepali language and not only rely on the translator but also be able to sympathize with people. Additionally, I’ve never been to Asia at all so I wanted to learn and understand the culture before starting to work.” Beside language classes she has been to the Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Boudhanth stupa.
‘I feel like it’s really different to mine, but interesting. Nepali people are truly nice and friendly. The structure of the Nepali sentences is really different to Spanish and English, so it’s completely new and it’s hard to get used to it and change the way of thinking! And of course the words are also totally different. But it really is a lot of fun to learn a new language!
Besides learning about the language and culture Belen also stayed at a homestay and family house with other volunteers. Together they would hang out and have fun together. They would go for hikes, visit the tourist area or make Nepali food together.
